Profile

Born in Obihiro, Hokkaido, she studied under Reiko Sakuma, Emiko Tadenuma, and Kenji Watanabe. After enrolling in the Piano Department at the Tokyo University of the Arts (Tokyo Geidai) in 1992, she moved to the United Kingdom as a scholarship student at the Royal Academy of Music. There, she studied under Christopher Elton and the late Maria Curcio, a world-renowned piano pedagogue.
In 1995, she won second prize (with no first prize awarded) at the Isernia International Piano Competition in Italy. The following year, in 1996, she graduated at the top of her class from the Royal Academy’s postgraduate program, receiving the Best Recital Prize. Even during her studies, she performed extensively as a chamber musician alongside renowned artists both in Japan and abroad, earning immense trust and acclaim. She also began nurturing the next generation of pianists as an assistant to Ms. Curcio.
In 1997, she released her debut CD, which was featured in various music magazines and went on to win the HMV Japan Best Newcomer Award in 1998.
She returned to Japan in 2000 and gave a highly acclaimed debut recital at the Tokyo Bunka Kaikan the following year. To date, she has performed with prominent orchestras, including the Royal Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra, the "Music in the Mountains" Festival Orchestra, and the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra.
In 2008, she formed "The Grand Trio" alongside violinist Takumi Komoriya (Concertmaster of the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra) and cellist Ryoichi Fujimori (Principal Cellist of the NHK Symphony Orchestra). The trio released their first album in May 2009 and performs regular recitals. She also released a new solo album under T-TOC Records in October 2010.
Currently residing in Yokohama, she maintains an active and diverse performing career as a soloist and chamber musician, primarily within Japan. Known for embodying the genius of composers through outstanding technique and a rich, colorful tonal palette, she serves as a profound bridge between the music and the hearts of the audience, steadily building a devoted and growing following.
